Sony Tour, Critics Choice Awards and More
The past few weeks have been a whirlwind with a trip to Los Angeles for the Critics Choice Awards and the Sony Pictures Studio Tour.
In a perfect world, I’d have gone on the Sony Pictures tour back in 2021. Unfortunately, the pandemic had other plans. Paramount hasn’t reopened their tour so I’ll have to wait until another Los Angeles trip before being able to tour their lot. As far as the Sony Pictures tour, it’s fine. It certainly could be better. They don’t have a backlot so you’re at the mercy of which stages are open and which filmmakers are fine with letting you walk inside. One disappointment that I had is that we didn’t make it to the Irving Thalberg building. Warner Bros. offers the best studio tour in my opinion.
To say that awards season has been busy would not be an understatement. This year saw the Critics Choice Awards go up against BAFTA on March 13. As a CCA voter, I was able to attend the awards. Unfortunately, I was in the adjacent ballroom and watched the awards on the TVs in there. I made the best of the commercial breaks with meeting people in the hotel lobby or right outside of the bathroom. Let me say this: Netflix sure knows how to throw a party. As a transgender person, I couldn’t meet Ted Sarandos without addressing the elephant in the room. A few days after the CCAs took place, the Super Awards were announced.
