SATM is Now on Buttondown
Solzy at the Movies has made the transition from Substack to Buttondown in response to Substack saying they're fine with racists. There's nothing you need to do on your end as everything, such as reentering information. You can find the archives here.
I expect there will be something of an exodus from Substack. Many are leaving for Buttondown, Beehiiv, Ghost, Medium, Patreon, etc. In all honesty, I had my own reservations signing up for Substack in 2021 because of their hosting transphobes. The move to Buttondown has its pros and cons. The pros are that they take nothing off the top in subscription payments. Aside from a small Stripe processing fee, all revenue goes directly to publishers, which is how it should be. The more paid subscribers that one has, the more Substack takes out of the cut. Buttondown only has a small monthly fee but that's it.
I'm still adjusting to Buttondown's editor block and figuring out web/email footers and whatnot. That's definitely something I appreciated about the Substack editor block. It'll take some adjusting to over here.
While I started something of a George Clooney retrospective series, it kind of became a Coen Brothers retrospective week, too. Much of this is because many of the Clooney films had to make their way to the library. The library doesn't transfer holds on Saturday or Sunday and they were also closed on Monday. The titles I've been waiting on are finally available but since Thursday became something of a Robert De Niro day and it was raining, I'll continue the Clooney retrospective after this weekend in all likelihood. It was gonna be a De Niro/Scorsese day but then I decided to watch Inside Llewyn Davis on Thursday night.
I don't go out of town during this time of year--it certainly doesn't help with a few outlets still being behind on freelance payments. I didn't leave my apartment at all on the 25th because the idea of going to a movie by myself on the most depressing day of the year was depressing enough. I did end up seeing Migration on Tuesday and still need to publish my review. In the meantime, I spent this week watching a number of 2013 films for their tenth anniversaries, albeit rather delayed in many instances.
I was gonna send this on Thursday but it took forever to get the paid subscriptions completely transferred and working again. Thankfully, it's been taken care of. In waiting to send it out, I'm able to add this morning's three reviews.
