Robert Reich Is Not Wrong
Robert Reich warns that Americans must choose between democracy and dictatorship

Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich had some powerful words on Thursday and he’s not wrong. Americans need to choose between democracy and dictators. There’s a good bet that we’re going to see another evolution in the American political party system for the first time since the 1980s following the two-decade period in which the New Deal coalition fell apart.
What Secretary Reich is saying is more or less on par with how I voted when I went to the polls in November. My key issue, for the obvious reason, was American democracy. I’m not an Israel-first voter. Obviously, combatting antisemitism and being a Zionist are very important to me—without Israel’s existence, I would have no country to take me in should things get even worse in the states. But at the end of the day, I voted for the Kamala Harris because I knew she would uphold the U.S. Constitution. This is more than anyone can say about the convicted felon as shown by what happened on January 6, 2021.
Here’s what Secretary Reich posted on Bluesky:

In short, we can’t be thinking about liberal vs. conservative ideologies. The day will come when we’ll deal with such ideologies again, but for right now, Americans need to choose between democracy or dictatorships.
The convicted felon is doing everything he can do dissolve federal agencies and cabinets. The most recent piece of news? It’s not the firing of thousands of IRS employees during tax season, No, The Washington Post reports that he’s going to take control of the independent USPS and fire the postal board. You can bet this will impact mail voting. The USPS postal board is already planning to fight back:
The board is planning to fight Trump’s order, three of those people told The Washington Post. In an emergency meeting Thursday, the board retained outside counsel and gave instructions to sue the White House if the president were to remove members of the board or attempt to alter the agency’s independent status…
Trump’s order to place the Commerce Department in charge of the Postal Service would probably violate federal law, according to postal experts. Another executive order earlier this week instructed independent agencies to align more closely with the White House, though that order is likely to prompt court challenges and the Postal Service by law is generally exempt from executive orders.
In other news, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries was met by protests during a book tour in Chicago. The House is not in session this week but even if they were in session, Democrats do not have enough votes to stop the agenda. Not in the House and not in the Senate. Even with a united front, it still requires getting Republicans to side with Democrats to stop the agenda. Who are those Republicans going to be? History awaits the answer. Shabbat shalom.
