Olympics, Reading, and More
A deep dive into the 2024 Paris Olympics, baseball books, film reviews, and political commentary.
Like so many others, I have been glued to the 2024 Paris Olympics. My apologies for not sending out anything in the last few weeks but I’ve also been reading a lot of baseball books. In fact, I’m currently reading my 11th baseball book since the start of July (okay, late June if we want to be precise but the review didn’t run until early July and the 12th sports book in general since retired sportscaster Tom Hammond didn’t cover baseball).
With rare exceptions, if you were to visit SATM right now, it’s basically become Olympic Central so to speak with posting the daily TV/Peacock schedules since just before the Opening Ceremony. I was able to sneak in a pair of baseball documentaries just before the Opening Ceremony. Both of those film reviews ran during the first full week of competition. They ran in full on Dugout Dirt while excerpts were posted to SATM—the same went for the Pete Rose documentary series on HBO.
If you’re a baseball fan, please consider subscribing to Dugout Dirt! I have another book review scheduled for Wednesday AM. Whether a book review also runs on Friday depends on when I finish the Warren Spahn biography. Ideally, I plan to keep a MWF publishing schedule but it depends on how quickly I can go through my reading pile. Honestly, I’m reading more baseball books right now than watching movies. They keep my focus much better with all of the world events happening. But even then, there are plenty of baseball documentaries and movies that I can access the library, Tubi, and other streaming services.
While I usually post what I’ve written, I’m not going to direct people to outdated TV/Peacock schedules for Olympic events that already happened. Of course, all events are available to watch on Peacock both live and later on as a full event replay. You can click the link above if you are interested in seeing the packed TV schedules. I usually post them at some point in the evening depending on my schedule. Again, I’ve been reading a lot so that can have an impact on the timing!
In political news, I’m with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. If another Jewish person tells me that I should vote for DJT because he’s good for Israel, I’m going to scream. He is a narcissist who only cares about himself. Furthermore, I’m trans and not about to vote for a person who wants to take away my rights. By voting for DJT, people are showing that they don’t care about my rights. They’re supporting someone who has a previous history of praising dictators and will pull American support for Ukraine. His VP pick is a white nationalist with a history of promoting antisemitic conspiracy theories and anti-Israel votes. The MAGA wing supports Russia, which is not an ally and run by a dictator—Joe McCarthy would be so ashamed if he found out what happened to the GOP.
This Friday marks the 50th anniversary since President Richard Nixon resigned. While I’ll get through my pile of presidential biographies sooner than later, I do have a review of All the President’s Men scheduled for Friday. While there has yet to be a 4K UHD release, I expect one between now and 2026 to mark the 50th anniversary. I squeezed in a viewing last night rather than watch Primetime in Paris.
