Ivan Reitman, The Super Bowl, and More
The year continues to take away from us with the passing of Ivan Reitman over the weekend. It wasn’t until after his passing in which I learned that his parents survived the Holocaust. I had the opportunity to meet Ivan back in August 2018, ask a question during the Ghostbusters panel, and will forever cherish the memory. My thoughts are with his family and friends. May his memory be a blessing.
There haven’t been enough studio releases this month. After not going to the movies since February 3, I had two press screenings on back-to-back days this week. This is it until next week. I did review a few of last week’s releases but they were only available to watch from home. I still need to watch the new Prime Video film, I Want You Back, starring Jenny Slate and Charlie Day but I’ve been a bit on the busy side. I lost all of Monday afternoon to getting a cavity filled. With timing playing out as it did today, I don’t have any new reviews running in the morning. I have an errand to run on Wednesday morning so no movies until the afternoon!
Because of fewer studio releases coming out, it means focusing on news pieces, classic films, and columns as a way of driving traffic to my site and trying not to burn out in the process. I started this Substack as a way of supplementing what little ad revenue comes in rather than shill my Paypal for donations. Initially, the thought was to write pieces that were exclusive for Substack and not just recap what articles ran on the site in the past week. January was my biggest month since December 2020. Compared to last month, February numbers are not even going to come close. This is full time for me and freelance work is still hard to come by this far into the pandemic. With all the effort being put into running the site, I haven’t been able to work on a screenplay I’ve been writing with hopes of getting it developed into a feature film . I’m hoping this changes soon.
