It's The Slowest Time Of The Year
Whether it’s the recent brutal cold or holiday shutdown, the last two weeks of the year drag by very slowly.
I’ve been keeping busy as much as one can, what with a brutally cold tundra of an apartment during Winter Storm Elliot. I’ve slept beyond my alarms Friday-Monday. There’s definitely something about the cold that makes people want to sleep in. Until Sunday afternoon, Thursday had been the last time I left in order to make a run to the grocery store. There’s nothing like having to go out in a winter storm to pick up items that one forgot the night before. I didn’t have a choice as it needed to be done!
During the past week, I went to a pair of Chabad parties—one of which had a Chinese food buffet. Elsewhere, I escaped my apartment on Sunday afternoon to join friends from shul for Chinese food and a movie. Elf won by popular vote. The laughs were more frequent while watching with friends than during my last solo viewing in November. This should tell you about the power of laughter—comedies require a shared communal experience. They just are not meant to be watched alone and I wish that every publicist working on an indie comedy film would understand this. I want to experience a comedy with an audience, even if it’s a room full of fellow film journalists.
