Film Festival Musings
Last week’s depression unfortunately had an impact on my Chicago International Film Festival coverage. I was able to watch The French Dispatch, The Last Duel, Dune, and Mayor Pete in advance but didn’t really catch as many press screenings or screeners. Unless something changes, Belfast concludes my Chicago fest activity for the week after seeing both C’mon C’mon and Spencer this week. The latter three reviews are scheduled to run closer to release.
Sometimes, the larger studio films will screen for press during the festival. Other times, we get lucky and Allied invites us to the fest screening and it simultaneously serves as a press screening. In 2019, IFC Films invited press directly to attend their films. Neon can be hit or miss with screenings but the fest offered a Spencer screening on Wednesday afternoon. Keep your eye on the film, due out in November, because Kristen Stewart is a contender.
