Disney Needs To Do Better
Bob Chapek has damaged the Walt Disney brand in more ways than anybody could have thought possible.
One has to be really bad at their job to do a worse job than Michael Eisner. I’ve been a longtime Disney shareholder since my grandmother z’l gifted me a share in the 1990s. This weekend, after being disgusted with hardly anything coming from Disney in response to the horrible homophobic and transphobic bills in Florida, I used my responsibility to vote against Bob Chapek’s reelection to the board. On Wednesday, we learned that either he lied at the annual meeting or Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s press secretary is lying. In any event, it’s a stain on the Disney brand.
While all of this is going on, NOTHING has been said in response to the transphobic bill signed into law at the start of Pride month last June in Florida. This law is reason #1 why I will not be stepping foot in Florida and going back to Disney world. The bills banning transgender athletes from playing with their proper gender are not getting anywhere near the amount of outrage as the other ones. Yes, the Don’t Say Gay bill is outrageous and not even necessary but where was the outrage last summer.
