Comedies Are Struggling At The Theaters
Original comedy movies are struggling to make money at the box office in 2022—Bros is just the latest to flop upon its theatrical release with an estimated opening of $4.8 million.
It isn’t just Bros. There are others that struggled and I'll get to them in a moment. People just aren’t leaving their homes for comedies anymore. They don’t want to pay for the inflated cost of tickets combined with the cost of babysitting. Theater tickets have grown exponentially over a number of years. Prior to the pandemic, if I missed a press screening, I would make plans to go on discount Tuesday at AMC. What happened? Well, AMC stopped being open early in the day! Why should they be open earlier when the audience isn’t going at that time of day? Unfortunately, it means that I’m just not able to see things at the theaters if I miss them because the timing just doesn’t work with my schedule. I’m not going to watch a new release at dinner time. I’d rather go at lunchtime or in the early afternoon.
In addition to what I’ve already written yesterday, I have more thoughts so please read below.
