Chagim Equals Time For More Reading
When the Jewish holidays fall during the week, it usually means time for more reading because two days of chag plus Shabbos. Aside from Yom Kippur, everything is Shabbos/Sunday this year. However, it hasn’t stopped me from being very productive when it comes to reading. I started reading Get Up, Baby! by late St. Louis Cardinals broadcaster Mike Shannon on the Shabbos after coming back from St. Louis. Because of Rosh HaShanah, I was able to finish reading it on the first day. It’s a really quick read and I wrote about it this morning on Dugout Dirt.
Following dinner last Saturday night, I started on The Warner Brothers by Chris Yogerst. I didn’t have any Shabbos dinner plans this past weekend so I was able to get through a substantial amount of reading on Friday night. While the WGA strike has led to late shows being taken off the air, I’ve been watching baseball or postgame shows during the late 11:30 PM hour (thank you, Dodgers, Padres, Giants, etc.) In short, it has meant that I am not reading late at night like I was during the bulk of 2020. Anyway, I made myself finish a chapter last night after Shabbos and before going to bed. If all goes well, I’ll finish the book following services tonight with plans to write about it this week. I expect that my formal review will be running this week.
