Canada Is Not For Sale--It Shouldn't Be
I call for an end to the absurd trade war with Canada.

There is no rational reason on this planet for a trade war between the United States and Canada. For the same reason, there’s no rational reason as to why the United States would annex Canada. All of it just needs to stop. I stand with my friends to the north.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is visiting Washington, D.C. today for meetings with the convicted felon. Unfortunately, the convicted felon is up to his same old delusions of grandeur, thinking that Canada should join the US and that a country with ten provinces and three territories would somehow mathematically be the equal of one state. He’s wrong and his math definitely is not mathing.
"It's not for sale, won't be for sale ever," Carney said.
The felon is insistent that nothing PM Carney says will change his mind on placing tariffs on our neighbors to the north. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: he is an idiot. He is dumb. He is the worst president in American history and that’s saying something when James Buchanan, Andrew Johnson, and Franklin Pierce are consistently at the bottom. With how much Andrew Jackson is dropping in presidential historian rankings, he might be joining them soon.
The “Liberation Day” tariffs are already showing their impact at American ports. The tariffs are essentially a tax on American companies and consumers. That’s not to say anything of his plan to place a tariff on movies, which is illegal per U.S. Code.
Across the pond, Friedrich Merz has been elected chancellor of Germany. The CDU leader needed two rounds of voting.
In Ohio, the establishment GOP is fighting for preservation as Gov. Mike DeWine is working to prevent the state party from following the convicted felon in endorsing the felon’s candidate of choice.
A Democratic congressman from just outside of Pittsburgh thinks that the intraparty divide between moderate and progressive is over. He sees the battle as being focused on the economy. The divide isn’t over—it’s still playing out on social media.
The Bulwark let it be known that leaders of the Uncommitted movement have absolutely zero regrets that their movement led to a fascist authoritarian being elected. They don’t care about American democracy being ripped into shreds. If I knew that my actions had led to a fascist coming into power, I would have serious regrets about it. That they don’t have any regrets is showing us exactly who they are.
“It was worth it because we got to continue centering what was happening in Gaza,” said Layla Elabed, the cofounder of Uncommitted, which declined to endorse Harris and encouraged people to vote their conscience. Asked if she feels any guilt about Trump’s win, Elabed said that what frustrates her is that their months of activism ultimately “wasn’t enough to save lives.”
If they really cared about what was happening in Gaza, maybe they would be speaking out in support of those actively protesting Hamas on the ground. Have they said anything? Why aren’t they protesting against the convicted felon in the same way that they did to President Biden and Vice President Harris?
While Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker is saying all the right things, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear told WDRB Mornings last Thursday that he is considering a run in 2028.
"If you'd asked me a couple years ago if this is something I'd consider, I probably wouldn't have," Beshear said. "But I don't want to leave a broken country to my kids. So if I'm somebody who can bring this nation together, hopefully find some common ground, it's something I would consider."
If Gov. Beshear runs, I’m pretty sure that he would get my support immediately. That said, it wouldn’t surprise me if either governor decides to run. The advantage that Gov. Pritzker has is that he’s a billionaire. The disadvantage is that he’s Jewish and even as a Jew, I don’t think that it’s possible for a Jewish politician to be elected president. I’m not trying to be a pessimist here but the reality is that antisemitism is very terrible right now.
Finally, a new survey has been released about LGBTQ Jews facing antisemitism and being forced out of LGBTQ spaces. If there’s any link here in this newsletter that you decide to read, please make it this one.
