A Legend Passes Away And Other Thoughts
While 2021 came to an end on Friday night, it came with the news that Betty White died at the age of 99. But if you’re interested in knowing, she did reach 100 in the Hebrew calendar. I was finishing up my third viewing of Belfast when I learned the news and stuck with my plans to finish the year with my third viewing of CODA. After getting back online following the end of Shabbas, I made The Proposal my first film of 2022. I was going to go with a Jurassic World double feature but my return to Isla Nublar can wait.
The end of the year saw a number of repeat viewings for anniversary purposes or because of just wanting to rewatch films for fun. Thursday was an Adam McKay with viewings of The Big Short, Vice, and Don’t Look Up. But because I didn’t want to end the day with the end of the world as we know it, I finished the night with another viewing of La La Land. Believe it or not, this was my first pandemic viewing and it came two years to the date! On the subject of Don’t Look Up, I did another pandemic viewing of Dr. Strangelove. We might laugh at it now but one can only imagine how terrifying the satire was during its release in the 1960s.
