12: The music must always play
Hey friends,
I’m back on the radio tonight, and I’m excited to play new Portland Hip-Hop from Wynne & Cassow, and to bring you a set of music based around records I bought or listened to while spending the week after Labor Day in New York City. It was my second trip; Ronda and I visited in 2010, but this was a little vacation from family to see my pal Kevin and to bum around the city with my friend Brian. I scored a few NYC classics at record shops in Bed-Stuy, and I found time to listen to music while walking around the city. Maybe I’ll even share the story of the worst bowl of pho I’ve ever been served.
I’m on live on 90.3 FM in North Portland or streaming at freeformportland.org at 10 pm PST until midnight, but I will e-mail out links to the archive of the show at a later date.
⁂
It’s been a pretty sweet summer since I last communicated. My birthday weekend at the end of July was a blast–I never thought turning 40 could be so cool. My pal Skyler & I hosted a show played by Point Juncture, WA and Fountaine, and I had friends in from all over to help me celebrate. Then I got to see Willie Nelson with my dad! We hosted my niece for a long weekend, attended a wedding party, and saw lots of incredible music.
Josephine started kindergarten at a school called the Metropolitan Learning Center (MLC), located super close to downtown Portland. She finally put all the pieces together after a summer spent at the swimming pool, and she was swimming on her own by the last week the pool was open. Esmé is going to preschool on her own now, and her teachers and the other parents are astonished at how much more she talks to and interacts with them now that Jos is gone to preschool. Ronda and I are pretty sure that’s because Esmé spent all her time talking to Jos when she was still around. Go figure.

Here are the shows I’ve played on Freeform since my last mailing:
