Experiencing life’s opportunities in short, digestible adventures.
Adventure?
“Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things! Make you late for dinner!” Bilbo Baggins
Adventure is something closely associated with tales of grand proportions - life changing experiences that offer moments that you don’t get in your normal life. Growth, reflection, accomplishments from checking off your bucket lists and opportunities of living life to its fullest.
Bilbo joining the Dwarves to reclaim their homeland ⛰️
Grace getting sent light years from Earth to find a solution to save the Sun (and discovering alien life in the process) ☀️
Travelling across a different continent and taking in the sights, cultures and experiences. 🗺️
As much as these grand adventures are life-changing, they seldom crop up in our lives. Planning one requires lots of time or money (or both) and with how quickly time passes as you enter adulthood, fitting one of these in is usually relegated to a small section of the year (or if you have the freedom, perhaps more!)
To fix this, we’re going to shift our perspective. Instead of thinking big, why not think smaller, a Micro Adventure!
Short Bursts of Adventure
A micro-adventure is, simply put it, a short endeavour of experiencing something different from your life. These can be anything you entail that’s not part of your ordinary day to day life. It could be:
Going away on a short weekend trip 🌴
Doing a day trip to a nearby town you’ve wanted to visit 🏙️
Partaking in an event that’s near you. 🏁
Joining a workshop or activity where you learn a new skill 🥘
Micro-Adventures, Macro Benefits
Taking on a micro-adventure may seem like a minor experience out of the ordinary, but they yield just as many benefits as the adventures written in stories or passed down from generations.
Perhaps you’re someone like me who wants to explore, but hesitates a lot on those big adventures? You’ll find it easier to get into planning a micro-adventure.
Maybe you want to put that holiday paradox into practice and have some days that actually FEEL like a full day or you could be looking for a quick getaway after a time pressed week of work, family or other commitments. Creatively, you may want to recharge your creative energy, ignite your imagination or discover new outlets from these experiences.
Whatever motive it is you want from a normal adventure, planning out a micro-adventure should satisfy that curiosity within you. You can feel like you’re on those adventures you hear or read about, but on a manageable scale.
So how am I going about doing a micro-adventure? Through monthly hikes!
One Micro-Hike at a Time 🥾
It’s always refreshing going outdoors when I’m on my daily walks and hiking has been something I’ve wanted to incorporate a bit more into my life. It’s good exercise, gets you out in the outdoors and you get to witness the many wonders of nature.
Not only am I hiking across nature’s landscapes, but I will also be capturing these monthly hikes through photos. Photography is another creative interest I’ve been meaning to tap into more and this is the perfect opportunity to do it right within nature!
You’ll see these monthly hikes over the coming Tales, where I’ll also share a little something I’ve learned along the way too!

Whether you wanted to do something outside the norm or live life a bit more, consider doing your own micro-adventure!
If you were to do a micro-adventure right now, what would you do?
