in living organisms, the breaking down of more complex substances into simpler ones
People are too comfortable looking away. Too quick to mute a cry for help. Too eager to scroll until they find a narrative in their preferred flavor of inaction.
This is how erasure occurs. Within a collapsing information sphere that strives for homogeneity above all else. Pulp isn’t palatable enough for mass consumption. As outlets and their archives close up, you can’t help but wonder which betrayals our ruling class will leave out.
One of the entries this week contains a lot of bigotry. It’s an ugly document, the unabashed hate is laid bare. I included it because the intentions are stated clearly, leaving no room for doubt. It’s important to understand, as many of the same arguments are still being made today. Some by government officials.
They hide the most abhorrent parts of their ideology behind snippets that sound reasonable. Over time, undesirable details get filtered out from the broader context. Smooth narratives spread easier over the masses.
Never forget that our media environment is controlled by a small handful of companies, all in the business of sanitized retelling. Their record can’t be trusted, we must craft our own. Creativity is our biggest advantage in this fight.
A good story can last longer than any primary document.
