Do you know where your content is?
TL;DR
Instagram promotes original content creators and makes KPIs more detailed and easier to access
Patreon releases large update including ‘Quips’ and collaborations
Spotify give human creators a green ‘Verified’ tick
TikTok lets users add relevant keywords to their content
Instagram has a new penalty for unoriginal content aggregators: No recommendations
As part of Meta’s ongoing creator-first shift, Instagram have announced a change to their content ranking guidelines to boost original content creators. Accounts reposting content from other accounts will not be recommended by the algorithm and this applies to Reels, photos, and carousel posts.
This is good news for original content creators who put thought and effort into creating unique content as they will be seen by more users, and accounts copying their work will be less visible.
Instagram improves Insights UI, adds new metrics
Another way Meta is trying to keep creators engaged is by providing more key performance data and making it easily accessible. They have updated their Insights UI, adding tabs for engagement activity and audience insights on the main Insights page. This feature is available for both posts and Reels.
These are small but significant changes but these kinds of metrics can make all the difference for content creators, especially when it comes to sponsored posts.
Patreon is prioritizing discovery. New short-form posts called Quips are part of the plan.
Patreon has released one of its largest updates to date. Two new features will be particularly useful to creators: collaboration posts and ‘Quips’. Creators are now able to co-author a post with another creator, reaching a much larger audience. Also, they can publish ‘Quips’; free, short-form posts similar to YouTube’s ‘Shorts’,
Both these features enable creators to access larger audiences, and different audiences to those they would usually attract.
Spotify has a new use for “verified” check marks: They can identify human creators
With the rise of AI-fuelled fraud, Spotify are now making it easier for users to differentiate between AI creators and human creators by giving human accounts a green check mark. This will also help towards preventing AI-scam accounts from uploading content other another artist’s name, while still allowing AI-generated music to be published legitimately.
It’s an important step to ensuring that creators’ revenue and reputation remain in tact and their users can be sure they’re listening to the real artist.
TikTok lets users add relevant keywords to metadata
Creators on TikTok can now add and remove keywords assigned to their clips, which will help them to better align their content with user searches and adjust to upcoming trends. They can also block keywords to ensure their content does not appear in searches for irrelevant, misleading, or potentially offensive content.
It’s a powerful feature that will help creators to target their audience more precisely and not be associated with content that might be damaging to their reputation.
