YouTube's AI deepfake detection tool is now available to all creators 18 and older

YouTube is now releasing its ‘deepfake detection tool’ to all users over 18 after a steady rollout over the past few months. It is designed to detect whether a user’s likeness has been copied and used in AI videos posted on the site.

Users wanting access to the tool have to enrol using YouTube Studio on their computer and submit their government ID before completing a selfie video verification. The detection and takedown process works similarly to their Content ID system for detecting audio infringements.

Spotify enable upload of video podcasts from other platforms

As part of Spotify’s mission to be the home of video podcasts, they have announced an API that enables podcast hosting platforms to plug straight into Spotify’s system. This means that users uploading content through other platforms such as Libsyn, Podigee, Audioboom, Audiomeans, and Podspace can now distribute their content to Spotify directly.

In addition, if the user’s content qualifies for Spotify’s Partner Program, it can be monetised alongside the user’s pre-existing audio distribution and monetisation setup.

TikTok launches counterfeit goods detection initiative

TikTok have launched a counterfeit protection initiative called ‘TikTok Real’. The initiative will collate insights from over 300 IP experts worldwide to create a strategy that will aid TikTok in its efforts to detect and remove counterfeit products. A crucial move in legitimising TikTok shop as a digital outlet for creators and brands.

TikTok launch ‘Ad-Free’ subscription

As is the natural evolution of all tech platforms, having drenched their app in adverts TikTok are now charging users for the privilege of removing them. Their newly launched ‘TikTok Ad-Free’ is a monthly subscription that removes adverts for subscribers. It is currently available to UK users only that are over 18 years old, for £3.99 a month.

A creator’s likeness is becoming a valuable asset for brands

This article examines the battle taking place between creators and brands as a creator’s likeness becomes increasingly valuable in the age of AI.

With the ability to artificially place creators in a variety of contexts and configurations at the touch of a button, there is a growing necessity for “kill switches” that enable creators to prematurely curtail their contract for inappropriate placement.
