YouTube releases updates for podcasters
YouTube have announced three podcast-related updates to YouTube Premium subscribers:
‘On-the-go mode’ with a control panel similar to Spotify, with large controls for play, pause, and skip, enabling users to easily control how they listen to their content.
Auto-speed, which is meant to adjust the playback speed during moments when there is slower speech or a large amount of information.
Expanding its ‘Ask Music’ feature from YouTube Music to the main YouTube app. The feature now responds to users who want personalised podcast recommendations.
They’re small changes but valuable ones for podcast creators who are looking for other outlets where their content can be easily and comfortably consumed.
Google is letting social media stars customise their search result page
Google has announced the US launch of ‘Search profiles’, a way for brands and creators to customise their profile on Search – essentially, a social media profile on Google. The profile can be accessed through the creator or publisher’s knowledge panel and they can add an avatar, bio, website, social media platforms, and any other relevant information.
To qualify, users must be at least 18 years old and have a minimum of 100,000 followers on YouTube, Instagram, or X, or 300,000 on TikTok.
Meta tests ‘Series’ for episodic Reels on Instagram and Facebook
With the rise of microdramas, Meta is testing a new feature that allows creators to publish multiple short clips as part of a series. TikTok made a similar move in 2023 and allowed creators to place their series behind a paywall – a tactic Meta is likely to emulate. The feature will be especially useful for those who publish tutorials, travel vlogs, and dramas.
'Minecraft' affiliate marketing program rewards creators for promoting their products
Microsoft-owned Minecraft has launched its first creator affiliate program, supported by impact.com. Qualifying creators will be able to earn commissions by promoting products and subscriptions to their audience. Creators will receive a unique link they can then place alongside their promoted content so their audience can click the link to purchase the promoted items on Minecraft’s Marketplace.
TikTok's new Events app rewards users for generating buzz about big events
TikTok has launched a new standalone app called TikTok Pro Events, only in the US right now, in time for the FIFA World Cup. The app is focused on promoting large, cultural events and users aged 18 and over can earn ‘Stars’ by participating in hashtags in the app and sharing content related to the event. These ‘Stars’ can be redeemed for official World Cup merchandise and TikTok Shop coupons, or they can direct charitable donations to Feeding America, funded by TikTok.
Instagram introduces teleprompter tool
Instagram has expanded its in-stream teleprompter tool from Edits to the main Instagram app, allowing creators to upload their video script which will appear in a rolling text display as they record, with the text presented below the front-facing camera on your device.
