Charity Fundraising: Citizens Advice
Help me raise some money for Citizens Advice Sheffield!
Good morning folks,
I know that it's been a while - the first half of this year has been frankly awful, and I made the decision to scrap sending out newsletters entirely because I had nothing worthwhile or positive to write about. I have no plans to restart them (especially because I now have to pay Buttondown to send anything), but I wanted to briefly renew the sub and use this space to bang the drum for something which I think is a worthy cause:
https://www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/p/steel-city-zens-collectiveMe and some of my team at my day job (working for Aviva) are currently trying to raise £1000 for Citizens Advice. If you're not familiar with Citizens Advice, it's a charity that was set up in the UK after World War II to provide support to people going through tough times - they provide advice on financial matters, help with benefit appeals or mental health support, and can generally ease the pressure for those who feel like the weight of the world is on their shoulders.
They're a valuable and useful service, and the demand for their services has only increased as the cost of living crisis has continued to push people into poverty.
We'll be doing various things locally to try and raise some funds (for example, I've signed up to run the Sheffield 10K with some of my colleagues and may even do it in a luchador mask for added challenge..!), but please consider chipping in a few quid if you can - all the funds we raise will be matched by Aviva, so if we hit £1000, Citizens Advice will get £2000.
There are over 500 of you on this list, so if less than half of you chucked in a fiver we'd hit the target with ease! Obviously this isn't a Kickstarter, because I can't offer any rewards other than the satisfaction of supporting a worthy cause, but as a little incentive - if you donate to the crowdfunder and would like something in return, you can reply back to this email and I'll send you the cover and the first 8 pages of SENGOKU (by Andrew Browne and myself; the cover is also coloured beautifully by JP Jordan) which we're just about ready to try and find a publisher for.
Here's the fundraising link again, please do take a look and donate what you can: https://www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/p/steel-city-zens-collective
Thanks for your support over the years, and I hope you don't mind me sharing this - I'm not asking for donations for myself, but for what I think is a great cause and for an organisation that does a lot to help people in need.
All the best,
