True Apocalypse, out today

I put out a new comic today! True Apocalypse, written by me with art by Matthias Lissak, is about a guy who saw all kinds of post-apocalypses in movies and video games and then wound up in one himself, trying to survive with the lessons he learned from that fiction. It's a different take on the genre and I think it's the best thing I've written so far, and you can get it here! https://chrishutton.itch.io/true-apocalypse

We're also doing a print run, so if you'd like to buy a physical copy, just hit me up, and/or be at C2E2 in Chicago later this month. You can stop by Matthias's table in Artist's Alley or find me wandering around the convention center looking for cool people to make take a copy.

I don't know if I've mentioned this here or not, but I've been taking a comics writing class with Scott Snyder, who is a huge name in comics and wrote Batman for years. Scott is also kind enough to meet with me on Zoom, read my work, and help me out with my burgeoning "career." This led to me getting to put a pull quote from a guy who I had been a fan of, and who wrote fucking Batman, on the cover of something I wrote. It's cool as fuck. Although I wasn't smart enough to put a (Batman) next to his name on the cover for the non-geeks to see what a big deal it is. Next time baby.

It's hard to say much about the comic without spoiling anything, but I'll share a little about where it came from.

In January of 2021 I saw a post online looking for stories for a comics anthology about the end of the world. And I noticed that my immediate reaction was to kind of roll my eyes. I felt like I had seen everything I needed to see about how grim and gritty a post-apocalypse would be. The whole genre was boring to me now. Then I thought, ok, well, if I was to try writing a post-apocalypse story, what would I do? What could I do that wouldn't be boring or stale to me? We also had now seen some "apocalypse" during Covid; what did we observe in reality compared to fiction? So I wrote this.

Please check out True Apocalypse and/or share it around! I'm really proud of it and I would love for as many people to read it as possible.
