Let's Get Some News

THE HUTTON HOME FOR WAYWARD PROJECTS

Hey friends! I'm a busy little bitch, and I have a ton to share with you.

On the comic book front, there is a lot going on, but most of it is happening in the background right now.

-Matthias Lissak, the artist who I make most of my books with, is nearly done with a very special, secret, seven page short, and it'll be our first comic available IN PRINT!

-We also have two manga one-shots that we successfully pitched last year, one for the Big Hype Volume 3 anthology through Jumpstart Comics and one that will be in the first release of Star Tales magazine. Sadly, through circumstances out of our control, Big Hype Volume 3 is no longer happening, but our story will still be put out one way or another! I was especially excited for the Star Tales opportunity, as I was an early champion of the magazine. Creator D. Sam Owen later came to me and asked if I'd be interested in doing a one-shot, with any artist I wanted, that could become a series if the reader response is good. So I brought Matthias with me and we did a one-shot, introductory chapter of one of my dream projects. Get your best reader response ready.

I'm very excited for both of these to come out! Here's a teaser image for our Star Tales one-shot, Power Creep: A Leon Scofield Casebook:

-Speaking of dream projects, I've been spending a good portion of the last couple years working on pitches for two manga series' that I'm going to be sending off to Viz Media, the company that publishes all the big manga in English. This means that if they were to be accepted, my work would be on the shelf in Barnes and Noble right next to my favorites like Dragon Ball Z. Would be an insane dream come true, so I'm taking the work very seriously. These projects are the heaviest outlining I've ever done, racking up 13 and 21 pages.

-Matthias and I are also working on launching our own comics imprint to continue self-publishing our stuff together in a more official capacity, and we're putting together a collection of our first several short comics that will be available both digitally and IN PRINT! Cannot wait to be able to get books into your hands. I've also got two more one-shot scripts finished for Matthias when they have time after uh, almost everything I mentioned above. The two of us are going to have quite the body of work in a year or two. More news on this very soon :)

On the non-comics front!
-The sci-fi audio drama podcast I worked on as a producer and wrote a couple episodes for, Additional Postage Required, is out in the world and people are liking it! Here's some more info on that:

Additional Postage Required, created by Jay Petrequin: Clem Bianchi is a courier, delivering mail in space one job at a time. When a chance encounter awakens them to the ability to hear conversations tied to their mail, they start a journey of adventure, conspiracy, and connections made across the stars.

The Haunting of Autom Manor (episode 3, which I co-wrote): Clem Bianchi’s next job takes them to Mimas, where reclusive author Miriam Autom is typing away at her next soon-to-be smash hit. In fact, she has been for a while - so long that when Clem arrives, they meet two other couriers sent on the same job. Todd, the first mailman to make it to the house, claims that Autom Manor is haunted. With the author impossible to extract from her office, the trio of couriers embarks on an old-fashioned ghost hunt.

Jay and I wrote a commentary on episode 3 that's available on the show's Patreon here,

And the episode I wrote by myself, episode 6, will be out before you know it. Also my fiance plays the ship's A.I. throughout the season and is great at it.

-I'm a co-host on the new season of another podcast, Riley Hopkins and Their Amazing Friends, where we're creating Dragon Ball Uuber, a sequel series to Z and Super. It's maybe the best podcast I've done, definitely one of my favorites to make. The first two episodes are out today, and the full 14 episode season is available for just $3 on the Moonshot Patreon! For my fellow Dragon Ball heads, here's a preview graphic for the show that my co-host Jeff Stormer made:

-Lastly, I've been hard at work writing a nonfiction book about my years in the pro wrestling world, which is currently sitting at an unwieldy 420 pages, and I've got a ways to go. I'm gonna have to chop the thing in half when I finally finish the first draft.

-Oh I lied, one more small thing. My podcast network Moonshot has both a new website and our first merch item! You can pre-order one of these nice pins right here.

That's finally all the creative news that feels right to share at the moment, but somehow not all of what I'm working on. Anyone who, like me, never feels like they're doing enough, I recommend having to type out a newsletter and look at it all.

Thanks for supporting me, and the next time you hear from me, I'll have a new comic book for you!

From Detroit with Love,
Chris, 03.13.23
