Things are cooling off just a tad today with a high of 87 and some clouds in the sky. The weekend looks a bit hotter with potential thunderstorms on Sunday.

the cycle:
GRTC is expanding their on-demand ride service in Eastern Henrico, from 12 on your side.
The first pilot rolled out in October of 2023.
Residents can request rides only within their specific zone, in places where traditional public transit doesn’t exist or may be impractical.
From GRTC Spokesperson Harry Bendon:
It’s connections to two of our high-frequency routes, the ones and twos. And it’s reimagining kind of what it looks like to board public transit here in areas where density might not support fixed route service, kind of in and around.
The 5 zones are located in Azalea, Ashland, Sandston Elko, Clover Dale, and Powhatan.
Bendon said initially it was just tens of people per week but now it’s in the thousands.
Passengers are picked up in a van and sometimes others are picked up as well along the ride, just like on a typical bus or train.
The average wait time in urban areas is around 20 minutes, but could be up to an hour in rural areas.
Link Microtransit has various hours in the 5 zones, but most operate 5-6 days/week from the early morning to as late as 8 or 11 pm.
The service is fare-free, and rides can be requested either by calling or through the app.
the vibe:
Have a great weekend RVA!
