A man in a wheelchair was killed after being struck by a vehicle on the 6900 block of Midlothian Turnpike Wednesday morning. The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
There have been nine pedestrians killed by a motor vehicle in Richmond this year, with six deaths occurring on Southside.
Another serious crash occurred Wednesday morning in Henrico when a bicyclist was allegedly hit by a GRTC bus on West Broad Street, via WRIC. The man was taken to the hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries. The driver of the bus remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Richmond courthouses are now providing Yondr secure pouches to maintain a phone-free environment but allow visitors to keep their phones with them, via WWBT. If a visitor needs to access their phone for a case-related matter, they will be given an unlock device in the courtroom.

The Richmonder has obtained bodycam footage from behind the scenes after a 15-year old was pepper sprayed in the face at a Turnstile concert on Brown’s Island last month. Graham Moomaw writes:
Sheriff Antionette Irving indicated her office’s internal affairs division has finished a “preliminary investigative report.” But the sheriff hasn’t released the report to the public, and her office has invoked a Freedom of Information Act exemption to block its release.
