Visas Restored, a Rose, and Friday Cheers

Three VCU students who had their visas revoked last month have had their visas restored, according to Erin Kolenich at the RTD.
A number of students at Virginia schools, including 19 at Va Tech and two at UVA, have had their statuses restored as well.
About 1200 international students across the county had their visas revoked in early April.

The Richmond Public School board recently voted 6-3 to request to be removed from a state performance agreement, according to Victoria Ifatusin at the Richmonder. The agreement is a memorandum of understanding that requires the division follow a corrective action plan if 100% of schools are not accredited; however it does not provide any additional financial support. Currently about half of RPS schools are accredited.
Tom Barbour, a democrat running for Richmond’s Commonwealth Attorney hosted an “Ask Me Anything” on r/rva on Reddit on Tuesday. Barbour is facing incumbent Colette McEachin who was elected in the 2019 election. Both Barbour and McEachin have raised about $220k in the past few years, with Barbour currently having $44k cash on hand and McEachin $77k, according to VPAP.

Venture Richmond Event Operations Manager Mavis Wynn started working for Downtown Presents, a precursor organization to Venture Richmond, in the mid-1990s. She describes a more corporate atmosphere than you’ll find at Brown’s Island.
“It was definitely an older crowd,” she says. “We would see folks coming in from their office buildings, loosening their tie, taking their tie off, loosening that top button from their button-down, [wearing] khakis and just having a great time. But we also would get an influx of the younger kids in high school because it was free and open to the public. And at the time, we had some pretty good up-and-coming bands.
