VCU Health Expands, a CAO Position, and Summer Music Concerts

Cheers RVA!

Today will be partly cloudy with a high of 75 and a low of 54, with a mild breeze.

the juice:

Richmond’s interim Chief Administrative Officer Sabrina Joy-Hogg will resign from her position effective June 6.

The city continues its nationwide search for a permanent CAO with a decision expected to be announced soon.

Mayor Danny Avula said of Joy-Hogg:

Sabrina’s dedication to achieving a balanced budget and her institutional knowledge was a tremendous help in the early months of my administration. I’m thankful for her dedication over these past five months and wish her continued success in her new role.

Joy-Hogg will continue her public service in Newport News.

the pulp:

  • CORRECTION: Tuesday’s newsletter stated the level of fluoride in the city’s water was 7 g/mL, when in fact it is 0.7 g/mL. Shout out to the reader who informed me of the mistake.

  • A city DPW employee was shot while collecting trash early Wednesday morning in Shockoe Bottom, via WRIC. The man’s injuries are considered non-life-threatening. Mayor Avula noted such incidents are why he established the Office of Gun Violence Prevention in April.

  • VCU Health held a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday for a new $90 million medical facility in Chesterfield, via Bizsense. The 100k square foot, four-story building will be located near the intersection of Iron Bridge and Beach Roads.

the dive:

R. Anthony Harris dives from RVAMag dives into summer musical performances with the ultimate guide to Richmond concerts and festivals in 2025.

From regional festivals like Rooster Walk and Floydfest, to Friday Cheers, to shows at local venues like Get Tight Lounge and The Camel, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy live music this summer.

Harris writes:

This is RVA Magazine’s unofficial, unfiltered field guide to the music we actually care about this summer. Not everything—across genres, across Virginia, and across stages big and small—but this city moves fast and we couldn’t fit everything in. So consider this a jumping-off point, not a final word.
