The City of Richmond’s Department of Finance announced on Friday it had completed sending real estate tax bills to mortgage lenders, telling residents to call their lender in 10-14 days to verify payments.

The deadline for paying the real estate tax bill is June 14.

If you have already paid your tax bill and your lender has as well, a press announcement includes detailed instructions on how to navigate rva311.com to submit a request for a refund.

the pulp:

  • The artist who created the Witch mural outside the Padel Plant along the Haxall canal has painted the words “NOT FOR SALE” in protest after a disagreement with the owners of the padel and pickleball facility, according to Chelsea Jackson at the RTD. The mural was originally created in 2022 as part of the RVA Street Art festival by artist Mickael Broth. A series of emails between one of the owners of the facility Alex Nordheimer and the artist can be viewed here.

  • Richmond’s public swimming pools have opened for the season, with pools open from 4:00 to 8:00 pm this week until Friday. Beginning in June the pools will have more extensive operating hours. Follow the parksandrecrva IG for the most recent updates.

the dive:

The RPD Safety Camera Program has issued more than 40k citations so far this year from the cameras which operate near schools during arrival and dismissal times, via Jamal Williams at WRIC.

The fines total $1.38 million, with $1.04 million of fines remaining outstanding as of May 20, a payment rate of about 25%. Part of the delay in payment is due to drivers having 30 days to pay the citation, and contested citations taking longer in court.

Since the program began in March of last year, nearly $2 million in fines have been received.

The RPD and DPW operate 26 cameras at 13 school zones across the city as part of the Vision Zero Task Force, an initiative to eliminate traffic deaths and injuries while promoting safe, healthy and equitable mobility.
