The Dime Bridge
Cheers RVA!
Today will partly cloudy with a high of 82 and potential afternoon thunderstorms.
the juice:
One of the four local speed cameras has gone missing, per South Richmond News. The camera at Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts was knocked over and is being checked and should be working again today.
The four cameras issued more than 5200 tickets in the first month of operation. The first violation is $50 and subsequent violations $100.
Patrick Henry is one of the 2 pilot schools for the plan, which will expand to 6 and eventually 13 schools in the city.
Money collected is being placed in a special fund to sustain the speed-enforcement effort and implement steps in the city’s broader traffic plan.
the pulp:

The tri-city chili Peppers win 9-4 in their first cosmic baseball game, from channel 8
the dive:
John Baliles, writer of RVA 5×5, jumps into the history of the Nickel Bridge, which actually cost a dime upon opening:
City Council had the option to buy the bridge within five years at cost but passed on the option. Between 1939 and 1959, some members of Council pushed five different times to purchase the structure that was earning a 82% rate of return on the depreciated original cost, but every attempt was shot down (insert your own joke here).
the vibe:
Today is World Bicycle Day, which is not to be confused with Bicycle day, the psychedelic holiday.
Have a great day RVA!
