804 day is today. The five hour celebration of local music in Shockoe Bottom will feature three stages with a variety of artists, dozens of vendors, and Bunky the dog.
Last year’s festival attracted more than 5000 people.

Henrico County Public School Students will receive new ID cards for the upcoming school year. The program was previously piloted only with students who rode the bus, but will now apply to all K-12 students. The badges must be worn at all times on campus and will allow students to ride the bus, check out books, buy food at the cafeteria and access specific technology services.
The city has lifted the recreational swimming advisory for the James downriver from the Manchester Bridge. Temporary repairs have been made to the leaking pipe and city officials are continuing to monitor the situation. Long-term repairs are expected to begin next week.
A 16-year old was shot in the leg on a GRTC bus near VCU yesterday afternoon. The boy is expected to survive, with the shooting occurring after an altercation. Chief Edwards is quoted by channel 6:
We're lucky today this individual is going to survive," Edwards said. "When people get into disputes these need to be resolved with a fist fight or a verbal argument. It doesn't need to escalate to violence.
I appreciate Edwards’ candid words (although a fist fight is a form of violence, his point rings true).

The Mercury reports on a shift in vaping ER visits in Virginia over the past few years, with the number of visits increasing more than 108% from 2020 to 2023.
Vaping ER visits have increased from 23k to 49k per year.
Tobacco incidents have decreased, but make up a much larger proportion of incidents. In 2020 there were 538k tobacco ER visits in Virginia compared with 402k in 2023.
