Richmond has captured more than 56k violations via speed cameras located near schools so far this year, generating nearly $2.5 million in fines, from WTVR.

Chesterfield’s cameras which were installed in February, have captured 8900 violations, with 5400 paid so far generating $543k in fines.

New Kent has captured 1647 violations in just the last 10 days via handheld speed enforcement in work zones along I-64, and plans to add a vehicle-based unit in the coming weeks, according to the Daily Press.

  • The Richmond planning commission has unanimously voted to approve a special use permit for a 16-home development in the West End at 3923 Grove Avenue, via the Richmonder. The homes are expected to be listed at $600k - $789k, significantly more than the value of current properties in the area.

Keyris Manzanerez from VPM dives into how federal immigration raids are affecting community members relationship with law enforcement, particularly in cases of domestic abuse or showing up to testify in court as a witness to a crime.

Manzanerez writes:

Federal law criminalizes certain actions related to undocumented presence in the US, including entering the country unlawfully, but being in the country without documented status is considered a civil violation.)

At least 20 community members of Richmond have been taken by immigration agents since February, with a total of 872 being held at Virginia’s two detention centers.
