An auditor for RPS is scrutinizing the use of procurement cards, saying some charges may be misrepresented to mask unauthorized expenses, via Tyler Lane at channel 6.
Procurement cards (p-cards) are essentially credit cards used to streamline smaller purchases.
Total annual p-card spending across the school system has increased from $636k in 2020 to $2.7 million in 2024, with half going towards instructional material and office supplies.
Auditor Doug Graeff noted the following examples of misrepresentation:
$5,500 in food was charged as office supplies
$5,000 in food was charged as staff development
$2,200 in food had split receipts
250 chicken dinners were charged as office supplies
Two shrimp dinners were charged as instructional supplies
One employee used a p-card to reload a personal Starbucks account

The Supreme Court has temporarily blocked the order by federal judge Patricia Giles that would have required Virginia to return more than 1600 people to the voter rolls, via Howe on the Court.
In an unsigned order, the application for stay was granted.
Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Brown Jackson indicated they would have denied the state’s request.
Voters in Virginia can register to vote up to and including Election Day, so any errors in voter eligibility can still can be corrected.
