RPD's Got Talent
Cheers RVA!
Things cool off a bit today with a high of 85. Expect a mix of sun and thunderstorms with a 60% chance of rain.
the juice:
The Virginia Department of Health issued an official recreational advisory yesterday stating all water activity on the James should be avoided from the Manchester Bridge down to Osbourne Landing in Henrico.
According to the VDH there is a COR DPU sewage leak near the Pipeline Trail.
The leak was first made known to VDH and the Department of Environmental quality on July 16th. They are monitoring the situation.
The Department of Public Utilities is aware of the leak and are working to shutoff the pipe and making assessments, with repairs to “begin as soon as possible.”
the pulp:
The Hanover County School Superintendent resigned yesterday. Dr. Michael B. Gill stated: “After a decade of service, I recognize that the School Board has new goals and objectives it wishes to achieve.”
A woman was critically injured after being shot in her car in the East End near Whitcomb Court yesterday evening, from channel 6.
the dive:
Today’s dive is about Local Richmond Police Officer Mervin Mayo’s appearance on ‘America’s Got Talent’, which aired this past Tuesday on NBC.
Mayo told host Simon Cowell about his experience growing up in Creighton Court in Richmond, and being taken under the wing by an officer in a police athletics league.
Mayo noted that he was thankful for the outreach and believes it kept him out of trouble.
He said he had seen more murders as a child than he had as a police officer, and that he has worked 17 years with at-risk youth because he himself was an at-risk youth.
After performing his rendition of Ed Sheeran’s, “Thinking Out Loud”, he received a standing ovation and his wife Mechelle, director of school counseling at RPS, was introduced on stage.
Mayo received universal praise from the judges as well.
the vibe:
Have a great day RVA!
