River Float Times, the ¿Qué Pasa? Festival, and a Book Sale

Cheers RVA!

Today will be warm and breezy, with a high of 88 and a low of 67, and again a slight chance of an afternoon storm. Saturday looks similar, with temperatures cooling down a bit on Sunday.

the juice:

A city official has said a mistake was made when $50k for a non-profit run by former City Council president Michelle Mosby was included in a budget document, despite the amendment not being approved by City Council, according to reporting by Graham Moomaw at the Richmonder.

the pulp:

  • A man was killed in a shooting in Whitcomb Court Wednesday evening, via the RTD. The investigation remains under investigation. There have been 21 homicides in the city of Richmond so far this year.

  • Goochland County has released a list of float times for canoeing and tubing the James River, via WRIC.

  • The Kickers face Greenville Triumph SC tonight at 7:00 pm at City Stadium. Bike Walk RVA is offering a bike night discount as well as bike valet. Richard Hayes from RVAHub has the match preview, noting the Kickers have not beat the Triumph at City Stadium since 2020.

  • The 24th annual ¿Qué Pasa? Festival takes place on Saturday on Brown’s Island from 12:00 to 8:00 pm. The free event “is held with the goal of showcasing local Hispanic & Latino businesses, artisans, restaurants, entertainers, and more.”

the dive:

The Friends of the Library Book Sale takes place today, tomorrow and Sunday at the Main Public Library, via Karen Newton at styleweekly.

The annual event first began in 1959.

Paperback are sold for $1 and hardbacks $3, with CD’s, DVD’s, and occasionally some vinyl available as well.

This year there is a large selection of sheet music available.

Newton writes:

The beauty of it is that the inventory changes for each sale. For years, the Friends kept prices lower than most book sales because they’re committed to selling all the books and other media on offer. In addition to the scores of books available for sale, there’s also a small selection of individually priced books in their Special Collection.

The sale takes place on Friday from 12:00 - 5:00 pm, Saturday from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm, and Sunday from 1:00 - 4:00 pm at the Main Library at 101 East Franklin St.
