Today will be partly cloudy with a high of 91. The UV index will be 10/11 (very high). There is a minute chance of rain. Stay cool and hydrated.

the juice:

The Virginia congressional primaries are today. The main election to watch is the Senate Republican primary which determines who faces Tim Kaine in the Senate Race. Graham Moomaw at the Virginia Mercury dives in.

The City of Richmond is in the 4th Congressional District, where both parties’ candidates are running unopposed.

The Greater Richmond area does include parts of the 1st Congressional District, where the Republican candidate is unopposed, but the Democratic primary includes candidates Leslie Mehta and Herb Jones.

Both have raised slightly more than $100k, according to vpap.org.

the pulp:

  • Eastern Henrico gets its first medical marijuana dispensary, from Josh Jacobs at Bizsense

  • Virginia Senate returning to Richmond to discuss legislation on skill games, education for military dependents, via channel 8

  • Hanover Animal Control rescues ducklings trapped in sewer, from 12 on your side

the vibe:

All this heat got me thinking about cities with hot climates and local infrastructure.

Here is a multi-use path, physically-divided with shade cover, from Lagos, Nigeria, where the temperature is always between 70 and 94.

I hope your commute is at least somewhat shaded. Have a great day RVA!
