Plant Shops and a Crime Report
Cheers RVA!
Today will be mostly sunny and humid, with a high of 90 and a low of 71, with a chance of a stray afternoon thunderstorm. The weekend forecast is looking similar, with highs around 90.
the juice:
Richmond Police gave their mid-year major crime report on Thursday, noting while murders were up 14% over last year, major crimes were down, due in part to a reduction in property crime, rapes, and robberies.
However Chief Edwards also mentioned that 911 calls were down in the primarily Latino neighborhood of Southwood located along Hull Steet in South Richmond, according to the RTD.
Edwards suggested the decrease in calls may be in part due to a Federal crackdown on immigration and a reluctance of community members to contact law enforcement:
I am sure there are women who are being abused in Southwood who are not calling the Richmond Police Department, and that concerns me greatly.
There have been five pedestrian deaths in the city as compared to zero at this time in 2024.
the pulp:
Richmond’s finance director Sheila White has resigned, via WTVR. She had served as director since 2021.
A person was hit and killed by an AMTRAK passenger train in Henrico near Mountain Road, from WRIC.
RICToday has compiled a list of local plant shops, including a number of greenhouses, nurseries, and farms.
the vibe:

Have a superb day RVA!
