Microtransit Expands, Live Music, and Fireworks

Cheers RVA!

Today will be mostly sunny and humid with a high of 92 and a low of 70. The weekend is expected to be similarly sunny and hot, with highs in the low 90’s. Stay safe and hydrated.

the juice:

With the 4th of July weekend just around the corner there are a number of opportunities to celebrate the holiday around town on Friday:

  • The Star-spangled Squirrel Fest will take place at the Diamond beginning at 6:00 pm, with fireworks set for 9:30 pm. The event will feature live music and family friendly activities.

  • The Dogwood Dell ‘Big Show’ begins at 5:30 pm, with fireworks set for 9:15 pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, and a small picnic, but to leave glass containers, alcohol, grills, fireworks, and sparklers at home. (parking near both venues fills up fast, so get there early, or walk or bike there. There will also be a shuttle running from City Stadium to Dogwood Dell)

  • A Liberty or Death Reenactment of Patrick Henry’s famous speech in Historic St. John’s Church will take place at 1:30 p.m. with a live stream of the show held outdoors.

  • Watch the fireworks from the James River with RVA Paddlesports.

the pulp:

  • GRTC has expanded its microtransit LINK service in the Sandston zone, expanding coverage to include Fulton, Marion Hill, Rocketts Landing, Adams Elementary School, Baker Elementary School, Rolfe Middle School, Varina High School and White Oak Village, via the Citizen.

  • The three-alarm fire which destroyed a business and impacted three apartments in Shockoe Bottom last week was caused by discarded cigarette butts thrown into a flower pot with other cigarette butts, via WTVR. The incident was deemed accidental and no charges will be filed.

the vibe:

I’ll be taking a long weekend for the holiday but will be back in your inboxes on Tuesday.
