Meet Michelle Mosby and Bike from Ashland to Petersburg
Cheers RVA!
Possible showers in the morning but otherwise today is looking mostly sunny with a high in the low 70’s.
Ready to bike from Ashland to Petersburg?
Hanover begins construction on the Fall line Trail, per the RTD
Henrico dev is well along the way.
The goods. “43 miles of trail connecting communities, schools,
and jobs across 7 localities”
Quote from Capital Projects Manager Ryan Levering: “Yes I bike to work.”
Mayoral Candidate Michelle Mosby: an in depth interview with Christian Detres at RVA mag
The first paragraph regarding her growing up was very relatable to me: Going to the Circus at the Coliseum and having the Harlem Globetrotters in town.
The rest of the interview is textual jousting with a lol emoji. I like Detres’ style of interviewing. Mosby digs:
But you know what gets me? There was an election cycle in 2016 where there were 18 people running for Mayor. Obviously 17 of them lost. Then they disappeared from the conversation. My question is, where are they now? Did their ideas die? Just because they didn’t become Mayor? Their voices went away. Their involvement dissolved.
18 people did indeed run, 10 withdrew according to wiki. One was Joe Morrisey smdh.
The interviewer Christian Detres conveys a jovial tone amongst Avenger references from Mosby.
I agree. I think probably about 30% of why I do this is to be able to share my stupid ideas. I wish there was more, like, journalistic intent involved haha. I have all these ideas and I have a chance to share them with people positioned to do something about them, so I’m gonna have at it.
Mosby references my neighborhood which is mostly Henrico county…
I still remember when there was only two Pho restaurants near Tan A on Broad. Before Mekong existed. That is our Little Vietnam.
This next quote from Mosby grinds my gears. Starbucks 2000’s business model was literally to oversaturate a market with franchises and then watch the locals fail and then monopolize.
Development negotiated and even a Starbucks came from intentional conversations.
Detres references the spot that may or may not have been 420’d in high school with yours truly…
I don’t know why, but the Mr. Submarine on Broad always sparks joy for some reason for me. I have not been there in probably 20 years. But every time I drive past it, I’m like, “ahhh, that’s still there.”
Mildly contentious for a text interview but well worth the read.
The Richmond Mayoral race is shaping up to be two white men, one born rich and one born poor, and a black woman. Two of the three are former city council members, the other a finance bro. Looking forward to more conversations, stay real.
Cheers RVA and have a great day!
