Furniture Expenses and Sources Needed
Cheers RVA!
Today should be mostly sunny with a high of 83. Enjoy it!
the juice:
The city’s registrar, Keith Balmer, has had his City credit card suspended after spending 70k on furniture, food, art, hotels, and a mini-bar in 2023. Jon Baliles newsletter, RVA 5×5, has an in-depth look:
Pardon my French, but that is an absolute nonsense and lame excuse to cover up for the ineptness and the lack of accountability and absence of administrative competence at City Hall.
Baliles ran for mayor in 2020, but eventually supported Kim Gray. He once worked for Mayor Stoney but is no longer a fan, to say the least.
Apparently Balmer spent $9600 at LaDIFF for furniture and $769 at Value City, among other meanderings on the City credit card.
the pulp:

the vibe:
This anonymous fellow posted some tower climbing shenanigans on Reddit. I appreciate that he waited until after the scaffolding had come down to share his experience, so as not to encourage others.
It seems like they’ve been renovating the Carillon tower forever.
Have an uplifting day RVA!
