Housing Supply, a Slot Machine Ruling, and Shed the Kaiju at Porchella
Cheers RVA!
Today will be mostly cloudy with a high of 81 and a low of 65, with a chance of rain in the evening. Variable showers and thunderstorms are likely for Saturday, with Sunday expected to be sunny and less humid.
the juice:
Bellevue Porchella takes place Saturday from 12:00 - 6:00 pm in the Bellevue neighborhood on northside.
The ‘Live Music Walk’ was created in 2020 during the pandemic to "bring the neighborhood" together, and is now held twice annually by the Bellevue Civic Association.
Thirty-six local bands and individual artists will perform on porches throughout the day, with streets closed to vehicular traffic and food trucks on site.

Organizers are keeping an eye on the weather forecast and plan to make a final decision in the afternoon. If rescheduled, the concert series will take place on Sunday at the same time.
the pulp:
A Hanover Judge has ruled that a new form of skill games is legal, dismissing a misdemeanor charge against a store owner in Mechanicsville, arguing that because users do not insert a coin or token into the machine, the machines are not in violation of the law, via Dave Ress at the RTD. The operator of the machines Pace-o-Matic has released a game where players pay a store or truck stop directly and then the cashier unlocks the device. The skill game machines are essentially slot machines and use the same mechanism of intermittent rewards to keep users playing, but prize-payout rates are unknown, unlike the Virginia lottery. Convenience store owners have said they are able to earn more from the machines as compared to selling lottery tickets.
James Taylor and his all-star band will be playing Allianz Amphitheater on Sept 1, with a portion of the proceeds going to Friends of James River Park. Lawn tickets are currently available for around $70, with seats starting at $150.
Tyler Warren, who played quarterback at Atlee High School and tight end at Penn State, was drafted 14th overall in the NFL draft by the Indianapolis Colts.
the dive:
Sarah Vogelsong from the Richmonder dives into what’s driving a continued rise in housing prices, noting demand is set to exceed supply in the foreseeable future.
Vogelsong writes:
The president of the Home Building Association of Richmond says housing demand in the region will likely continue to outstrip supply “for at least the next two or three years.”
“We still don’t have enough lots available to kind of meet the demand, and so I’m very nervous about where pricing is going to go over the next six months to a year,” said Chad Joyce Wednesday after an event held by the Home Builders Association of Virginia at Richmond’s Commonwealth Club. “I think it can still continue to elevate, which is not really what anybody wants to hear.”

the shout-out:
Shed the Kaiju, a ‘group of four dudes who play frisbee and instruments’, will be performing at Porchella.
A spokesperson for the band says:
A product of the radiation brought on from swimming in the James River post Dominion spills, Shed the Kaiju has emerged ready to take over the world. Part Shed, part Kaiju, they’ll be tearing through enemies with prefab and power tools.
The band will be performing at 12:30 at 3853 Fauqier Avenue.
the vibe:

Have a musical day RVA!
