Glover Park's Massive Expansion and Science on Tap
Cheers RVA!
Today cools off again with a high of 80, with potential showers or thunderstorms later in the day.
the juice:
The Second phase of Glover Park’s expansion is underway and is expected to be completed by Fall 2025.
The massive expansion will include a 5k trail, two more multi-use fields, four baseball fields, two playgrounds, shade shelters, more parking, and a dog park.
The development of the 73-acre site adjoining the current park will connect to the Fall Line Trail and help “solidify the Woodman Road corridor as a sports tourism hub.”
The Henrico Citizen dives in further on the lengthy steps taken to get development going and the impact it will have on the region.
the pulp:
The RTD reports on jail visitation limits for Public Defenders at the City Jail. Lawyers are regularly waiting more than an hour to see jail detainees, and many have multiple clients. Apparently since the pandemic the lobby has been closed and visitation rules changed.
The City of Richmond has said there were actually two separate sewage leaks that occurred, one on July 2 and another on July 15. The first was exacerbated by an adjacent commercial stormwater run-off and the Department of Public Works reported no leak July 3. The July 15 leak is currently being repaired, and welding is set to begin the first week of August.
the dive:
The Science Museum is going Adults Only for 80’s night with Science on Tap, via rvamag.
A dance floor, food trucks, trivia, retro arcade games, and craft beers will be available, but the real kicker: all the exhibits will be open.
According to Communications Director Jennifer Guild:
When there are kids here, most of the adults let them interact with all of the exhibits primarily, stepping back to let them explore. This usually ends up with our adult patrons never really being able to “play” the way we all know they want to. So, we take some time aside just for the adults to cut loose.
