Final Campaign Fundraising Numbers, Restaurant Closures, and RVAGoats
Cheers RVA!
Sunshine continues today with a high of 80 and a low of 60, with light wind.
the juice:
The most recent election campaign fundraising numbers are in, with both Danny Avula and Harrison Roday each raising roughly $1.3 million.
Campaign fundraising is not necessarily a determining factor in winning a Richmond mayoral election, with both Levar Stoney in 2016 and Dwight Jones in 2008 winning with the 2nd most in fundraising.
New reports are also available for the City Council race:
As previously reported, the numbers for Tavares Floyd have come under question, and the Richmonder has reported that in the most recent election fundraising period Floyd has garnered only $300.
In the 2020 City Council race, two of the seven districts that were challenged were won by candidates who did not raise the most funds.
In the School Board race, only five of the nine districts are being contested. The largest discrepancy in fundraising is in the 2nd district, where challenger Katie Ricard has out-raised incumbent Mariah White ten-fold, $65k to $6k, respectively. However it is worth noting $42k of Ricard’s raised funds were from an in-kind donation from Spang TV.
‘In-kind’ donations are when goods or services are provided to a candidate rather than cash.
VPAP.org currently does not provide any historical fundraising data for the School Board election.

The Oregon Hill recently posted a shot of RVAGoats doing their thing chomping on excessive vegetation in Hollywood Cemetery.
RVA Goats and Honey is a small business run out of a local farm in Chesterfield, that uses goats to clear brush, weeds, and invasive species.
They have over 100 goats who are protected and herded by their guardian dog Castor, a Great Pyrenees–Maremma mix.
The herd (which includes sheep as well) has munched weeds in City Parks, the University of Richmond, and Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, as well as dozens of homes around the area.
Goats and sheep have special four-compartment stomachs designed to digest roughage, so any seeds ingested are unlikely to be viable.
The farm also specializes in all things honey bee, selling raw wildflower honey and mentoring beekeepers.

the vibe:
I recall seeing a bunch of goats randomly on a property along Riverside Drive while rage biking during co-vid. I wonder if they were the RVAGoats?
Have a goaty day RVA!
