the juice:
The Virginia State Senate voted 21-16 along party lines on Friday to approve a proposed constitutional amendment that could eventually allow the General Assembly to redraw congressional district lines.
The state legislature would need to approve the House Joint Resolution again in its early 2026 session, and then voters would need to back the proposal in a statewide referendum before the state constitutional amendment could take effect.
the pulp:
Multiple pedestrians were injured including one critically after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident early Saturday morning on Meadow Road in eastern Henrico, via WWBT.
A study from the University of Washington found that collisions with deer increase 16% the week after daylight savings time ends. While deer are most active at sunrise and sunset, the majority of collisions occur at night. Stay aware out there.

Ian Stewart from the Richmonder dives into the recent “State of the Schools Event” held by RPS to celebrate recent student achievements.
Superintendent Jason Kamras noted that while SOL scores are not the “be all end all”, students made significant gains over the past two years including a six point increase in reading, a five point increase in math, a 12 point increase in science, and a seven point increase in history.
Economically disadvantaged students saw a 10 point increase in reading scores, and multi-language learners outperformed their peers in Chesterfield and Henrico Counties.
The class of 2025 achieved a graduation rate of 80%, the highest rate in a decade, with John Marshall High School graduating 100% of its seniors.
Kamras introduced theme-based programming that high schools will revolve their curricula around:
Visual performing and digital arts at Richmond High School for the Arts
Engineering, construction, energy and sustainability at the soon-to-be-constructed Technical Center
Global business and international affairs at Huguenot
Health, human services and education at Armstrong
Computer science and emerging technologies at John Marshall
Law and government at Thomas Jefferson
