Hundreds of residents from Hanover, Goochland and Henrico counties attended a community meeting to express concerns over a plan to build a 400-acre data center near the Wyndham neighborhood, via WTVR.

The Hunting Hawk Tecnology Center would have 10 buildings and would be separated from homes by between 450 and 480 feet.

The proposal now heads to the Hanover County Planning Commission.

Virginia is home to 35% of all the mega (above 15 MW) data centers in the world.

  • The sentencing for the man who shot and killed three UVA football players in 2022 enters its second day today, via WWBT. Christopher Jones pleaded guilty to the murders last November and is facing anywhere from 23 years to multiple life sentences.

Graham Moomaw and Victoria Ifatusin from the Richmonder dive into how Democratic wins at the State level could affect Richmond, including potential changes to gun laws, a retail marijuana market, and affordable housing.

In addition to Abigail Spanberger’s victory in the Governor’s race, Democrats expanded their majority to 64 of the 100 seats in the House of Delegates, and are expected to maintain their majority in the state senate after an upcoming special election.

Regarding gun control, Moomaw and Ifatusin write:

Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards has pushed for state legislation that could penalize gun owners $500 for leaving firearms unsecured and visible in a vehicle. Edwards has pitched the idea as a way to crack down on gun thefts from cars, a particularly frequent occurrence in Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom. Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin has vetoed the measure.
