CoStar Layoffs, Broadway in Richmond, and a Massive Yard Sale

Governor Youngkin issued an executive order Thursday that will allow troopers with the Virginia State Police and correctional officers from the Virginia Department of Corrections to be deputized or trained to assist US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in its immigration enforcement efforts.
According to Ryan Nadeau at WRIC about 4% of the nearly 23k people in VADOC have an open immigration detainer, meaning they are to be held for 48 hours after release so ICE can determine if they should be taken into custody.

A spokesperson for VADOC said it has always cooperated with ICE — something that Youngkin also affirmed in his executive order — though they did not elaborate on how. When asked how VADOC operations would change, the spokesperson said 8News should “refer to Governor Youngkin’s Executive Order 47.”

CoStar, which owns Homes.com and Apartments.com, laid off about 120 local employees according to the RTD. The company employs nearly 2400 people in the Richmond area.
Broadway in Richmond has announced their lineup for the 2025/2026 season of shows at the Altria Theatre, with Moulin Rouge the Musical opening Tuesday evening.
Petersburg has secured final zoning approvals for the $1.4 billion casino and resort that was overwhelmingly approved last November via referendum, from Bizsense.
