Petersburg held a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday for the new $1.4 billion casino and resort expected to open in 2027.
Local residents of Petersburg approved a referendum last year with 82% approving, after Richmond twice rejected a referendum for a casino in the city in previous years.
A temporary facility is currently being torn down in Danville and expected to move to Petersburg to open by the end of this year, according to Rob Norton, President of Cordish Gaming Group, via WTVR.

Richmond could lose more than $116 million in federal funding depending on which federal programs are frozen or ended, according to Graham Moomaw at the Richmonder. The city expects to receive a total of $294 million in federal funding and assistance, of which $116 could be affected.
While voting for the Richmond’s People’s Budget begins in April, South Richmond News reports the Virginia Community Voice has announced the winner of their own people’s budget: ‘Art for safer streets’ in the form of a traffic calming street mural.

A New York developer has floated plans for a high-rise tower on the vacant lot at 703 Main St., via Mike Platania at Bizsense.
One proposal includes 18 floors housing 189 residential units, and an additional 10 floors of a 200-room hotel.
A second proposal includes mixed residential and office space without a hotel, while a third idea includes two builds of varying height.
