Traditional tolls are being replaced by a fully-automated system along the Powhite Parkway.

For those without E-Z pass, license plate images will be captured and invoices will be sent by mail.

According to the Richmond Metro Transportation Authority, “All Electronic Tolling (AET) reduces congestion, minimizes environmental impacts, and improves traffic flow by allowing vehicles to travel without stopping.”

The transition to AET on the Powhite Parkway will begin in the winter of this year, with AET coming to the Downtown Expressway and Boulevard (nickel) Bridge thereafter.
