A man was killed after being shot multiple times during his nephew’s funeral service on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred at Oakwood Cemetary after an argument erupted among family members during the service.
An investigation remains ongoing.
There have been 18 homicides in the city so far this year, as compared to 19 in the same period in 2024.

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed while crossing Walmsley Boulevard late Tuesday evening, according to WWBT. The driver remained at the scene and no charges have been filed at this time.
The Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA) Board of Commissioners voted Wednesday to transfer Gilpin Court to a subsidiary of the RRHA, the Richmond Development Corporation (RDC), via WTVR. RRHA CEO Steven Nesmith said the RDC is a nonprofit 401c that will act as a “development arm to advance development”. Councilmember Kenya Gibson of the 3rd district pushed back on the idea saying public housing is an essential safety net and the most affordable housing stock the city owns.
The governor’s race has garnered over $20 million through March 31 with Republican candidate Winsome Sears having raised $5.7 million and Democratic candidate Abigail Spanberger having raised $16.3 million.

Graham Moomaw from the Richmonder dives into city council’s most recent budget work session, with council members proposing $20.9 million worth of ideas for spending, but only $8.2 million that could be saved.
Moomaw writes:
One of the biggest proposed spending reductions came from Councilor Sarah Abubaker (4th District), who suggested putting limits on the 3.25% across-the-board raises Avula proposed for city employees. To ensure lower-paid workers get the most benefit, Abubaker proposed cutting off the raises for people making more than $150,000 per year.
City council is required to eventually pass a balanced budget.
