A Transportation Safety Survey and the Cecropia
Cheers RVA!
Today will be mostly clear with a high of 78.
the juice:
Take a survey on Henrico County public safety! There is Federal money to be got (see the dive), let’s use it the right way. The link is here. The survey closes Monday so do it now.
The survey itself takes 5-8 minutes and isn’t designed that well, but the interactive map for commenting is excellent. Citizens can anonymously identify points in the county where traffic is dangerous.
It’s difficult to not notice the concentration of commentary in the neighborhood between Libbie and Willow Lawn, and Monument and Broad.
I bike in that area often. The neighborhood is not only very safe, but you can see where the county has put in sidewalks on specific blocks that seem less urgent than many other parts of the county.
But this is the way it works. When you have residents who are vocal and have suction with any municipality, they get what they want.
Again the survey closes Monday, so hopefully folks who live in various parts of Henrico will offer some useful tips for improving transportation.
Adding a comment in an area near where you live or commute takes less than a minute.
And don’t just immediately close the pop-up which are the instructions like I did.
the pulp:
Motorcycle crash on W. Broad Street leaves one dead, from channel 6. No other cars or motorcycles were involved in the crash.
Richmond Police report 661 car thefts so far this year, compared to 427 this time last year, from 12 on your side.
the dive:
Arrive Alive Henrico is the County’s plan to improve transportation safety for all road users.
The county has received federal funding to reduce roadway deaths, from the Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program, which was part of the 2021 bi-partisan bill that provided $5 billion in discretionary funds. There is still $3 billion available for future funding rounds.
The county will be holding two rounds of public information sessions, the first on Monday, June 3rd from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Belmont Recreation Center.
They hope to have the plan developed by winter of 2024.
