the juice:

A man was mortally wounded on Saturday morning on the 2000 block of East Grace Street in Shockoe Bottom after attempting to intervene in a domestic dispute.

Local actor Jason Turck was walking his dog that morning and passed a confrontation between a 19-year-old man and a female. The man produced a firearm from his backpack and shot Turck, and then shot himself.

The incident remains under investigation.

Learn more about the life of the beloved actor from Rich Griset at styleweekly.

the pulp:

  • The Jefferson Davis statue on display at the Valentine Museum since 2022 is set to be transferred to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles on August 17, via WWBT. The Valentine has launched an anonymous survey regarding the removal of the statues, what should be done with them, and community values represented in Richmond’s monuments and public art. Take the survey here, it takes two minutes.

  • RICToday has compiled a list of six spots in Richmond to get matcha, a finely-ground powder of green tea leaves used in a variety of recipes including boba, ice cream, and lattes.
