the juice:
The City of Richmond is asking for feedback on four new roadway reconfigurations.
The bike lanes on Franklin will be extended to Lombardy. The survey notes:
The Lombardy St intersection (Stuart Circle) is complicated. The proposed design incorporates street art on pavement (street murals), paint and flex posts to reduce the size of the intersection and eliminates parking spaces. Do you have any comments on this design?
Street murals sounds cool and reducing the size of that intersection makes sense. I know the flex posts and parking are not the most attractive long-term solution for a bike barrier, but it’s economic and effective.
Changes for Leigh St. are also included:
Currently, parking is adjacent to the curb, followed by a bike lane, a buffer, and then the travel lane. However, there are some crash patterns associated with this configuration. To improve safety, the proposed reconfiguration puts the bike lane adjacent to the curb, followed by a buffer, then parking, and finally the travel lane. The physical barrier between cyclists and moving vehicles reduces the risk of dooring incidents and collisions with motor vehicles, and makes people on bikes more visible to people in cars.
Changes also include adding a bike lane and “bike accommodations” to a 3.5 mile stretch on Hopkins Rd. on Southside.
A section of Hull St. which is on Richmond’s High Injury Network will also be redesigned to reduce the number of travel lanes and add parking.

the dive:
Channel 6 has a feel good story about Commanders wide receiver Terry McClaurin’s nonprofit donating to Richmond’s Maymont Preschool.
“Terry’s Locker” is an initiative to put washers, dryers, and cleaning supplies in schools for underprivileged students.
The first school to benefit was a middle school in Washington D.C. just last week.
McLaurin noted:
For kids to be bullied or separated from their classmates because of things like that, ostracized, that really bothered me."
