A Survey, a Piccolo, and a Bike and Trails Plan
Cheers RVA!
Today will be sunny with variable clouds, a high of 89. It’s looking like the 4th will be hot so stay hydrated out there.
the juice:
The Kickers will be hosting rival Forward Madison at City Stadium tonight at 8 pm for a nationally televised game broadcast by CBS Sports.
It’s a red-out and the first 2500 fans will get a free red, white and roo t-shirt. Due to the late kickoff, there will be no traditional July 4th fireworks show.
Local journalist Richard Hayes of rvahub is bleakly predicting a three goal Kickers’ loss to Madison. Check out his full prediction here.
the pulp:
Virginia Senate and House Democrats came to an agreement Tuesday on the Virginia Military Survivors and Dependents Education Program (VMSDEP), from channel 6.
RVA Mag has all the cool things to do this 4th of July. Fun fact: Dogwood Dell was built in 1957.
the dive:
Henrico planners are completing the second phase of their comprehensive 20-year plan, a process which began back in 2021 according to the Henrico Citizen.
The previous master plan was created in 2009 and ends in 2026.
What’s different about this update of the plan?
The new plan also will, for the first time, include a separate Bike and Trails plan, outlining the vision for an enhanced network of trails, bike lanes, shared-use paths and pedestrian paths countywide.
This is exciting news because as boring as these decades-long master plans can sound, they do have an impact on real infrastructure development, traditionally dominated by the automobile industry which simply benefits from more and more roadway.
Henrico is also re-opening a feedback survey from 2022 which you can take here.
It takes a few minutes and includes a variety of formats.
There are a couple questions where you can see this odd thread of previous comments, upvotes and replies but it’s not interactive.
The survey also includes a map where specific issues can be pinned.
I recommend reading the full article from the Henrico Citizen which includes an interesting note on city/county survey participation rates:
Three Chopt District Supervisor Misty Whitehead noted that the city of Richmond’s recently comprehensive plan update process attracted detailed input from about 2% of the city’s population – higher than Henrico’s, which is less than 1% currently – and said that the county should aim for the same level of response. She asked whether officials could utilize Clarion Associates LLC, the consulting firm it is paying about $1.3 million to assist with the process, for assistance with outreach.

Happy 4th and have a great long weekend RVA!
